Injury-affected Juventus clearly missed Angel Di Maria as they ended in a 0-0 draw at Sampdoria in Serie A on Monday.

Di Maria added much-needed talent to Juventus, scoring on his debut last weekend and providing an assist in the Bianconeri’s 3-0 win over Sassuolo to start the season.

However, he was injured in that match and could miss next weekend’s important match against Roma, as he beat newly promoted Cremona 1-0 on Monday, 2-0. Won 2 losses.

Juventus also missed Paul Pogba, Federico Chiesa, Caio Jorge and goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny, while veteran defender Leonardo Bonucci was only on the bench.

Sampdoria hit Woodwork twice in last weekend’s 2-0 loss to Atalanta, but he struck again in the opening minutes following a shot from Medi Lelis.

Shortly after, Juventus nearly scored an own goal as Bianconeri forward Dušan Vlahovic kicked a corner kick into his own post.

Juventus thought they had broken the deadlock in the 65th minute, but Adrian Rabiot’s strike was disallowed as Vlahovic was in an offside position with a build-up.

Rabiot, who missed the season opener due to a suspension, recently saw a move to Manchester United fall through.

Juventus newcomer Filip Kostic nearly won, but his effort was brilliantly parried by home goalkeeper Emil Audero.

Wijnaldum support

Roma sent messages of support to injured team-mate Georginio Wijnaldum before and during their narrow victory over newly promoted Cremona.

The Roma players wore shirts with the words ‘Forza Gini’ (‘Stay strong Gini’) on them as they geared up for the game, with Chris Smalling also scoring the only goal of the match before heading to Wijnaldum. He held up a Roma jersey with his name and number on it.

Wijnaldum, who was signed on loan from Paris Saint-Germain earlier this month, fractured his tibia during training on Sunday.

Just before half-time, Roma took another blow of injury when Niccolò Zaniolo was taken off on a stretcher after appearing to dislocate his shoulder.

Roma also beat Salernitana 1-0 in their opening game, while Cremonese lost 2-3 to Fiorentina in their first top-flight comeback since 1996.

Both sides had several chances to take the lead and Cremona goalkeeper Ionusz Radu made a number of impressive saves.

The away side scored after a agonizing effort just after the break when Cyriel Dessers’ shot hit the crossbar.

Dessert also managed to get two acrobatic overhead kicks just past the post.

Roma also hit the woodwork when Radu hit Stephan El Shaarawy’s shot over the bar.

However, the hosts broke the deadlock in the 65th minute when a corner kick surfaced from the left and Smalling headed it into the back post.

Cremoners nearly tied the score in stoppage time when Charles Pickel’s volley caught the outside of the right upright.
